G-Star
School Passes State Instructional Review with Flying Colors!
Our new Principal, Mrs. Kim Collins (18 years of educational
experience, BS in Biology and Chemistry and a Masters in
Educational Leadership) has implemented her new educational
plan that was developed over the summer with key staff
members and School District professionals.
The Florida State Department of Education and the Palm Beach
County Instructional Review Team visited the G-Star School
of the Arts and conducted an in-depth review of the
school’s new educational plan and educational strategies in
Reading, Writing, Science and Mathematics for this school
year. The Committee was visiting many schools in the
District. The meeting had an unexpected good start when one
of the review board members told the others that her niece
attends G-Star and that she loves it. “Her mother says she
has never seen her daughter look forward to going to school
everyday like she does at G-star.” Then the review began.
In a rigorous question and
answer period with Mrs. Collins and members of her staff,
the reviewers were extremely pleased to find the new
educational strategies and programs she has instituted at
our school to be excellent in all aspects. Mrs. Collins
presented factual data, numbers & assessments, and the
implementation of strategically advanced educational plans
based on keen analysis of baseline data accumulated from a
variety of significant key elements in testing student
achievement. “We have become a data driven, standards based
curriculum as opposed to a lesson plan driven curriculum,”
stated Collins. The Review Team agreed as Collins
continued, “The proper analysis of crucial data allows you
to define the areas that need to be improved upon and
therefore implement strategies and methods to improve those
areas.”
The next successful step in
the review process came when the group went into the
classrooms to observe G-Star’s educational processes. They
were pleasantly rewarded with the observance of the exact
methods and educational models in action that Mrs. Collins
had described. The following are direct quotes from the
end-of-day review given to us by members of the committee:
“You have a wonderful, supportive
atmosphere that allows students to take risks.”
