Announcements 10/9/17

Any student riding a bus must ride this week October 9 – October 13th. Students only need to ride the bus one morning or one afternoon for registration purposes.  It is important that your student rides the bus this week to ensure they do not lose their seat on the bus.

G-Star will be following the District makeup days for Hurricane Irma. Students will attend school on October 16th, November 3rd and January 8th. The school day will be our regular school hours from 7:30 – 2:40.


Do you enjoy miniature wargames, such as Warhammer 40K and Warhammer Sigmar? Then you should join the Miniature Wargaming Club.  We meet every Wednesday during the first half of lunch in J-200 to discuss painting, lore, and strategy of miniature wargames.


Seniors, the application for the Bright Futures Scholarship and the FAFSA opened October 1st.  See Mrs. Sammarco for any questions.


For those students who are interested in learning about symphonic music and instruments and for those who already play, G-Star’s Symphony Club will be meeting in room A-108 after school every Monday. We will be learning about symphonic instruments and be working toward unlocking the inner musician inside of you.  Come join us.


Framing, Rule of Thirds, Lead-In Lines, Depth of Field, Focus: if you knew that these are elements of great photography, you are invited to submit your work to the 2018 Art-i-Fact Yearbook. See the poster outside room J-219 for more info or talk to Mr. Weiss.


Student Outreach Club meets every Tuesday for the first half of lunch in room A-108. Anyone who is interested in helping out our school and local community is welcome to join us as we plan different events for the school year.


Juniors and Seniors, a representative from AMDA will be here Tuesday for a presentation. Interested students should see Mrs. Sammarco by Monday to sign up for the presentation.


Eco-Garden Club meets every Monday after school in J-203. Come if you want to garden and learn about ways you can help the environment and go on fun field trips.


Political Science Club meets after school every Tuesday in A-109! Come if you want to discuss current events and other social issues.


Attention students, campaigning for student body elections has begun. Take some time to meet whose running.  Look for posters and campaign treats all week.  Elections will be held on Thursday, Oct 11th.  Make sure to come out and support.


Attention, Sophomores and registered Juniors: PSAT testing room location signs are posted outside of the testing office J-202. PSAT is Wednesday, Oct 11th.


Mark your calendars: here are your Spirit Week days!

Monday, Oct 23rd is Mathletes vs. Athletes: Dress up as a jock or a nerd.  Represent your favorite sports team or school subject.  Tuesday, Oct 24th is Tune-in Tuesday: Tune in to your favorite radio station, TV channel, or movie network and dress as your favorite character or celebrity.  Wednesday, Oct 25th is Wicked Wednesday: How scary can you be? Dress as a monster or a villain, but be aware of dress code rules; no masks or weapons are allowed.  Thursday, Oct 26th is Throwback Thursday: Travel back to your favorite era.  We recommend Freshman do the 50’s, Sophomores the 60’s, Juniors the 70’s, and Seniors the 80’s.  But feel free to time-warp to another era.  Friday, Oct 27th is Class Colors Day: By popular demand, we have returned to our original colors this year.  Seniors wear blue, Juniors wear red, Sophomores wear yellow, and Freshmen wear green.

Throughout Spirit Week, be sure to stop by the photo booth every day during lunch, in the courtyard.  The yearbook staff will be selling instant photos of you and your friends for $3/print.  Show your spirit and have fun!


First Priority will meet this Thursday in room A-108. There will be fun, food, games and a great group discussion. Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there.


The G-Star Acting Department is proud to present the 2017 Fall Mainstage Play, SHE KILLS MONSTERS! The show runs from October 17th – October 26th. Buy tickets in H-Building Theatre Office before school, after school, and during the first ½ of lunch.  Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for students, faculty and staff. The dungeons and dragons fantasy is not to be missed. The play contains content that is not intended for a younger audience.

First, all equipment must be returned the next class day. Failure to return equipment may force a one week suspension of equipment use.
