THEATER NEWS
November 12, 2012
Matt Stabile
On Saturday, November 10th, G-Star's
Thespian Troupe 6621 participated in the District X One Act Festival
at Wellington Senior High. The festival is an opportunity for
schools from South Palm Beach County to showcase a production of a
one act play. This year's festival saw productions from eight
schools from around the county competing for the chance to represent
District X at the State Thespian Festival in March. The festival is
adjudicated by independent theatre professionals and awards are
given to outstanding participants and productions.
Once again, G-Star has taken the top prizes.
G-Star's production of War Brides, written by Marion Craig Wentworth
and directed by our very own Mr. Patrick A. Wilkinson, was awarded
straight Superior rankings. War Brides was also chosen as Critic's
Choice of the Festival and will now go on to represent South Palm
Beach County at the State Festival in Tampa. In addition, several of
our students were singled out for individual awards including:
Camilla Tasca: All-Star Cast Member
Xavier Parris-Turner: Best Supporting Actor of the Festival and
Camilla Morell: Best Actress of the Festival
Many of you were fortunate enough to see this powerful play that Mr.
Wilkinson describes as "a story about the effects of war on women
and the potential affect of women on war" at our very own G-Star One
Act Festival. I know you will agree when I say that while we are
humbled by their success, we are not surprised.
As a side note: I cannot fully express the significance of these
achievements. G-Star was selected as Critic’s Choice Alternate in
2010 and as Critic’s Choice in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2013. For
SIX of the past SEVEN years, G-Star productions have been chosen as
“best of the best”. This is unmatched anywhere in the district – and
in many places around the entire state. This is due to our
incredible students, our supportive staff, and the most talented and
dedicated group of teachers I have ever known.
A huge “THANK YOU” to Jill Biegler, Brian Edgecomb, Brittany Smoliak,
and Patrick Wilkinson. You guys are awe-inspiring!
Thank you to the entire G-Star family for all your continued
support. Please take a moment to congratulate the incredibly
talented and amazingly dedicated young artists who made this
production possible. I have attached a list of participants at the
bottom of this email.
