An announcement from the G-Star School of the
Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts
The G-Star School of the Arts for
Film, Animation and Performing Arts has been
ranked in the top academic 1.4% of all high
schools in the nation! Each year the Washington
Post ranks the best high schools out of 37,000
high schools in the country. In the
just-released report, this year G-Star School of
the Arts had one of the highest advances in the
rankings by jumping past 315 other top ranked
schools. In 2011 G-Star was rated in the top
2.9%; in 2012 the school was rated in the top
2.3%; and now in the top 1.4%. Four years ago
when Mrs. Kim Collins became Principal she
implemented a new educational plan working with
each department in the school and the school's
administration. In that four year period G-Star
achieved full national accreditation from
AdvancED, began a new International
Baccalaureate World School Programme, and
installed a new Digital Media Career Path in 3-D
animation and film. Today G-Star is an "A" rated
school that graduates 99% of its students with
97% going on to college. This past semester 41%
of G-Star students have a 3.5 Grade Point
Average or above; and 21% have a 4.0 GPA or
above. In addition, the Raindance Film Festival,
Europe's largest independent film festival, held
in London, UK, named G-Star "The Number One High
School for Film in the World". Also during this
time, G-Star built the largest motion picture
sound stage in Florida where major film stars,
celebrities, and corporate productions (NIKE,
Rolex, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc.) work with our
students as interns on their sets.
Congratulations to Mrs. Collins and her
incredible staff. We are proud of your
accomplishments!
G-Star School of the Arts

I wanted to thank you again for everything you've done for me. I
currently work at Blue Sky Studios near NYC as a stereoscopic
technical director and compositor working on Epic. I would like
to thank you for all your support and quite honestly I wouldn't
be where I am without G-Star and the amazing education I got
there. I learned many things there, but most of all I learned
not to stray from what you want to do in life and to never
settle on any less then what you want in life. After graduating
I remember looking for jobs in film and then deciding to take
the leap and go to LA. G-Star made that possible and provided me
with the education to get me started. In the 4 short years I've
been working in the industry I have found that there are many
film schools that claim to teach you what you need to know to
make it, but at the cost of thousands and sometimes hundreds of
thousands of dollars in debt. I have found that most of these
people will never pay that off. G-Star saved me from that. I
have no student loans and have a resume with over 5 feature
films and 3 major studios on it. Thank you for providing me with
this. I remember you making the call to Ron Martin and
recommending me for the job at Digital Domain. You are
personally responsible for my initial break in to the VFX
industry. I consider what I accomplished at DD a great success.
Due to the environment that was provided at G-Star where
equipment was available and teachers encourage personal growth I
learned very quickly and moved up at DD. At DD as you know I
accumulated a number of box office releases ranging from
Transformers to Prometheus. After the collapse of DD that day in
Port St. Lucie I didn't go home. I went to G-Star because I feel
comfortable and I know I have my roots there. My G-Star family.
You have looked out for me. You have recommended me. And you
have made me successful. I now work at Blue Sky making over 100k
a year and on my way to a full time staff position and thanks to
G-Star I have an education in the film industry and no student
loans. You have provided me with a future that I know many
people wish they could have and I thank you for it.
If there is ever anything I can do to help you or the school
please let me know. I will do whatever I can in my power to
contribute and give back what has been so generously given to
me.
