Parent & Student Comments
G-Star was an amazing experience. It really made my 4 years of high school memorable. Most of the teachers at this school are AMAZING,especially those in K building. Mrs Tieche and Mr. Dawson both mentored me into where I am today professionally. Each student is given a unique set of options and tools to use, and it’s up to the student as what they do with what they are given. Since the school is an Arts school, students are encouraged to be open about their thoughts and are free to express themselves, which is very nice to see especially during our teenage years of high school where it’s ever changing. There are some small things about the school that could be addressed, but overall my experience was amazing and If I could I’d go to G-Star all over again. I’ve made memories here that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend the school if you’re looking for something different in your own or kids education, this school is anything but normal, in a good way.G-Star Graduate
Laura is a G-Star student from England:My name is Laura Solomons and I go to G-Star School Of The Arts. I remember hearing about this amazing “Film Production” school a few years ago. I never thought much of it until I attended the school’s open house the summer before high school started. After that, I was absolutely amazed. I thought it was brilliant! There was a variety of different events going on and students with smiles on their faces , everybody just working hard and getting along with each other. Many striving for their dreams. I have been attending G-Star now for a few years and I love it. I’ve brought many friends also from other countries to this school because I believe it is one of a kind. This school is full of kind hearted, open minded, helpful and friendly people who accept everybody for who they are. The teachers/Administration and staff are always there to help students and are very down to earth. I suggest this school to as many people as possible because it is a fantastic environment to be in and a great school to attend. G-Star will be in my heart forever. I am proud to be graduating from this school. Well done for all you have done. This school is brilliant and just outstanding!
Dear Mr. Hauptner,Thank you for creating the school of my dreams!National Honor Society Student
What else can I say? You and G-Star changed my life forever. The amount of opportunities you have given me, and the nurturing support has been priceless. Coming in freshman year I had zero clue what I wanted to do with my life, and now Gstar has given me a path I have always wanted to take. I can’t thank you enough Mr. Hauptner. I am so proud to call myself a Gstar Alumni!
*Note from Mr. Hauptner: Over the last two years Eli has been awarded First Place in three national photographic competitions – each with between 12,000 to 15,000 submissions. This year he won the world-wide Nation Scholastics Photo Competition finishing in First place over 320,000 submissions! He will appear at Carnegie Hall in NYC showing his photography. We’re very proud of him!
My daughter attended G-Star for her junior year. It was a wonderful experience. The students, the faculty and staff were all fabulous. They are a caring group of people. She is now in college making straight A’s. She would not be the confident, healthy young woman she is today without her time at G-Star.
My daughter is a freshman in G-Star this year and she loves it! She was home schooled since mid-third grade due to the inability of the school district to treat her like a child instead of a number. She is an ESE student that received little support and was bullied by classmates and teachers. I heard about G-Star through a friend and was interested. Being a charter school, I thought they would not be “ESE friendly”, but I was wrong! I signed her up immediately. June of this year and my shy, anxious kid started the X Scream camp and had friends on the first day. The upper classmen adopted her and made her feel welcomed. She went to the first day of school comfortable with her new friends and had a great day. Her IEP meeting was held almost immediately and was the smoothest process I ever went through. The curriculum is tough, but the teachers are wonderful and they encourage students to attend FREE tutoring during lunch. There is ZERO bullying and I mean ZERO! She is on the honor roll for the first time ever! I never thought I would be completely happy with a school, but I am. Great group of kids and staff have made this an amazing year! Highly recommend G- Star!
G-Star is a serious but fun and exciting place for my child to attend. She is challenged but not overwhelmed. The administration and teachers go above and beyond for each and every student. I couldn’t be happier with my child attending G-Star. I believe it’s a school that can help make my child’s dreams come true. Happy and proud to be a G-Star Parent.
I have attended G-Star School of the Arts since ninth grade, and am currently a twelfth-grader. When people ask me whether I made the right choice (choosing G-Star as my high school) I reply undoubtedly with a “yes.” Aside from the vast array of academic courses and clubs offered, G-Star uniquely offers film, animation, and even acting courses. I see myself as a much more well-rounded (soon to be) high school graduate. This is because of my wide knowledge of editing, animating, and acting. These have already helped me in life. I currently have a job that requires me to edit and animate film. My boss was amazed with how much I knew, without him teaching me anything at all. I explained to him that I learned the skills at my high school, and that flabbergasted him even more. Conclusively, I have learned an exorbitant amount of both academic and life skills, of which only G-Star could’ve taught me.
My son has excelled at G-Star. So glad he made the right choice to attend high school there. He was never just a number, but part of the “G-Star Community”.
My daughter attends G-Star and as a parent, I can attest that this is a phenomenal school. The Administration is supportive and has an “Open Door Policy” for both students and parents. There is a “no bullying” policy at this school and it is a policy that is taken very seriously by faculty and administration. The teachers are fantastic and offer free tutoring every day during lunch (something that is rare in any school.) The extra-curricular activities and clubs appeals to any interest, so there are plenty of opportunities for students to explore interests, learn new interests and collaborate with other students and staff. The fact that this school is unique on a film lot is even more appealing for my daughter. I would highly recommend this school.
I just wanted to tell you Thank You for your tireless efforts and enduring positive attitude and encouragement with students at G-Star. As an educator I am well aware of the time and effort involved in special projects and project-based learning. As an Area Support Specialist, I’ve come to realize that NOT EVERY TEACHER is willing or able to give as much of their time and energy as I always did when I was in the classroom, and have come to appreciate more and more the work of those, like you, who make the time and give so much of themselves to help develop the students in your care.
After reading the email about the G-Star student film being honored at the White House and seeing your name, and because my son always spoke so highly of you when he was in your class and still mentions your name as we discuss the best teachers he has had in his education so far, I am writing to simply say Thank You. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
I wish you well,
I just wanted to send you an email thanking you for all the advice, information I got from your class. I am emailing you after another long day/night of working as a PA on TNT’s new show, “The Last Ship.” I got the call that I had the job only three weeks ago, and I had three days to pack up and head out here to start that Monday morning.
I have already impressed my coworkers and the higher ups in production with my knowledge of the business aspect of the industry, helping to fill out and file paperwork. I owe all of that to you! Thank you so much again for everything and please tell everyone I say hello.
Dear Mr. Benjamin,
I hope all is well. I have just finished my 5th summer working in the IT department at a software company. I am getting a BS in Business Administration. This quarter, I am taking BLAW201, which is an introductory business law course. I can tell how helpful your class was and how well it prepared me for this class. The structure of reading the packets and answering the questions in your class seems to mirror curiously close to the structure of this college class. The first chapter is on the basics of contracts, and it felt like I was simply reviewing material that I already knew. I don’t know exactly what we will cover late in the course, but I am sure I will be prepared for the rest of this course and future business law courses. Thanks.
(Mr. Benjamin teaches Entertainment Law and is the former VP of MGM and United Artists)
I wanted to thank you again for everything you’ve done for me. I currently work at Blue Sky Studios near NYC as a stereoscopic technical director and compositor working on Epic. I would like to thank you for all your support and quite honestly I wouldn’t be where I am without G-Star and the amazing education I got there. I learned many things there, but most of all I learned not to stray from what you want to do in life and to never settle on any less then what you want in life. After graduating I remember looking for jobs in film and then deciding to take the leap and go to LA. G-Star made that possible and provided me with the education to get me started. In the 4 short years I’ve been working in the industry I have found that there are many film schools that claim to teach you what you need to know to make it, but at the cost of thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. G-Star saved me from that. I have no student loans and have a resume with over 5 feature films and 3 major studios on it. I remember you making the call to Ron Martin and recommending me for the job at Digital Domain. You are personally responsible for my initial break in to the VFX industry. I consider what I accomplished at DD a great success. Due to the environment that was provided at G-Star where equipment was available and teachers encourage personal growth I learned very quickly and moved up at DD. At DD, as you know I accumulated a number of box office releases ranging from Transformers to Prometheus. You have looked out for me. You have recommended me. And you have made me successful. I now work at Blue Sky making over 100k a year and on my way to a full time staff position and thanks to G-Star I have an education in the film industry and no student loans. You have provided me with a future that I know many people wish they could have and I thank you for it. I will do whatever I can in my power to contribute and give back what has been so generously given to me.
Dear Mr. Hauptner and Mrs. Collins,
G-Star is the first high school I have seen where teenagers ask to come early, stay late and spend their summer working hard in adult supervised activities. While the academic standards are high with freshman having the option of earning college credit, the student standards for behavior are even higher. In the short year and a half my daughter has been enrolled she has developed a strong work ethic and dedication both academic pursuits and her G-Star family. Although she has been recruited by a local talent management agency, her schoolwork and X-scream remain her first priority.
Parent of one current and one future G Star Student
Dear Mr. Hauptner,
The past 4 years that Drew has attended G-Star have been totally remarkable. The endless opportunities that were afforded him, resulting in numerous awards, are greatly appreciated. We know Drew would never have these opportunities at any other high school.
The faculty and staff at G-Star are to be commended for all their time and efforts that they put into making G-Star such a special school. We are excited and curious to watch G-Star grow and produce many talented artists in the future. We thank you so much for your vision. This has truly been a great 4 years for us. Words cannot express our gratitude.
With much sincerity,
Barbara Sandler, Jerry and Drew Perlmutter
Dear Mr. Hauptner,
I feel that it’s about time I’ve thank you for the opportunity you’ve given to me at our school. Through G-Star I have been able to pursue my dreams as a filmmaker. With the help of my incredible teachers, I won the Burt Reynolds Scholarship and was accepted into the FSU film school. I can’t emphasize enough how incredibly gifted and caring the teachers are at our school. I also wanted to thank you for the Pathfinder’s breakfast last week with my peers. Your school has helped me immensely these past 3 years and I would be nowhere without it.
My daughter is having an amazing experience because of G-Star. She is a junior and just won 1st place in the Women’s Film Festival over second and third which went to Dreyfoos students. She is also a silver medalist for Scholastic and will be going to Carnegie Hall to receive her award. Last week we met with Vin DiBona (America’s funniest Home Videos) and he could not believe how polished her work was and he asked, “Where did you learn this?” Of course she told him about G-Star and he could not believe it. He is the Chairman for Emerson and was thrilled to hear about G-Star. I just wanted to thank you for all that you are doing for these kids, especially mine!!! Even a film teacher that does not have her as a student has made an effort to encourage her work and let her know about industry news and opportunities. These behaviors come from great Leadership. On a side note, she is receiving an outstanding education with 3 AP classes and a 4.0 GPA, so G-Star is providing the entire experience!!! I know you are very modest and I hear you say that you are watching with disbelief too at how fast G-Star is progressing, but you really are making a difference in kids’ lives and putting Palm Beach County on the map!
Signed…A very Grateful mom
Dear Mr. Hauptner,
I just want to thank you so much for all your kindness and the wonderful opportunities you have given Emily- it is appreciated and not going unnoticed. I basically said the same thing to George but, needed to thank you as well and utmost…like I told George, G Star has been such a place of creativity and endless inspiration for Emily-she is so excited about her life after graduation…what an incredible feeling to have as a parent to know your child is that excited and motivated about her life prompted by a wonderful staff and school- whom has had patience with both my children. Again, both my husband and I would like to thank you.
Dear Mrs. Collins,
Your dedication to G-Star is amazing and I wish you and your family the best! You have been more than an administrator. I am so glad we chose G-Star over Dreyfoos. My daughter’s experiences and the family atmosphere made her high school years what they were! We will keep you posted as the next phase of her life continues.
I was supposed to have my daughter go to G Star last year, but I listened to a few people telling me that she should go to another local high school and she didn’t like it. So, we decided to try and get into G Star this year and she did. She absolutely loves it! As do I and my husband. The best decision we have ever made. It is a great and fun school. She has gotten all A’s on her progress report, loves the teachers and the dress code. I recommend it to everyone!!!!
I love this school so much. It is so much fun. The academics are amazing and just the fact that they teach more than just the facts – that they help you progress in your acting or film making skills is so incredible.
My son has been a student at this school for the past 2 years, and is eagerly waiting for the start of his 3rd year!!! There have been several occasions where I have requested additional help from teachers and staff, and they have never let me down. All that I have found that is needed is a nice polite request for assistance and it has always been given promptly and with more than enough detail to enable my son to get his work done. My son and I love this school.
I am a student currently going to this school. I am a freshman and I have no complaints at all. This school is different from any school that I’ve ever been too. The teachers are very understanding and help us as much as they can when it comes to the students. I know very few students that do not like the school. There aren’t any major problems and I’ve never seen a fight here. I know many students who are very involved in the school. The classes are fun and involved. I’m very proud to go to this school and I would really suggest to any of my friends and other kids to go.

I graduated last year and loved my experience here. It has a small atmosphere, absolutely great motivated teachers and yes it does have a few problems, but what school doesn’t. And compared to other schools the problems here are small. Everyone is nice and friendly and I feel that I received a great education. Like others have said you get out what you put in.

I think G-Star is a wonderful school. My son just started this year as a junior. I only wish I would have known about this school when he first entered the 9th grade. This is the first time ever that he has shown an interest in learning. With only a few weeks behind him, he has finally figured out what he wants to achieve in life. Thanks to all the teachers for caring for our children’s future and helping us to help our children achieve their dreams.

I attended G-Star and was one of the first kids who graduated from this school. This school helped me improve in my way of thinking. I owe a lot to the staff. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today. When I graduated I was almost a straight A student because of who I had for teachers. I owe a lot to my teachers, they never gave up on me and they showed me which way to go. I loved this school, and wish I could do it all over again.
