Famed Rockers prepare for USA Tour with G-Star students working on crew! G-Star Studios (www.gstarstudios.com), owned by the G-Star School of the Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts (www.gstarschool.org), was the choice of Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper for rehearsals for their Live Nation USA Tour. G-Star students were on stage working as crew loading in, setting up and loading out the show’s staging and equipment along with the professional crew. Being on set with these two major stars and watching them rehearse was quite an experience. One G-Star student was stunned when the producer asked if any of the students could play the piano for a sound check. Kiley Thibodeau said she could. She stepped up to Rod Stewart’s original 1952 Hammond B-3 organ with yellowing keys and serious wear and tear that had been played by some of the most famous musicians in rock & roll history and played songs while the technicians balanced out its perfect sound. It was a moment of pure magic for Kiley as her friends on the crew watched in awe. “I was very surprised! Whoa! They let me play this! I was excited…like cool!” Abby Longhofer, the G-Star crew manager (who sings soprano opera), said about the experience, “They were so organized. I grew up listening to Rod Stewart. It was nice to step up to a leadership role, especially with a huge big name act.“ Zoe Overholser said, “I was wearing a T-shirt my grandmother gave me she bought at a Rod Stewart concert in the 70s. He saw it and said, “Oh, wow! Is that original?” “He asked about our WWII airplane and wanted to know all about our school in general. Then he offered to sign it – and he did! He was so nice and funny!”
G-Star Studios is owned by the G-Star School of the Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts (www.gstarschool.org). Founder/CEO Greg Hauptner states, “This is what we do that no other high school or college can. Many of our students receive real world, hands-on experience working on sets with the cast, crews, and stars of multi-million dollar films, commercials, music videos & rehearsals and more.”
